In May 2022, the photography book “Lugares comunes / Locuri comune / Common places” appeared, a trilingual edition (Spanish, Romanian and English) published by the Center for Contemporary Photography Iași, made as part of a collaboration between the National University of Arte “George Enescu” from Iasi, Romania and Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny Illes Balears from Mallorca, Spain. It brings together artistic projects made in recent years by ten students of photography specializations from the two institutions: Sandra Calpe Micó, Maria Antònia Grimalt Torres, Natasha Lebedeva, Cătălin Marinescu, Laura Martinez, Sarah Daria Muscalu, Radu Neacșu, Oana Nechifor, Lluc Pallicer and Ioan Gabriel Popa. Made under the coordination of professors Silvia Prió, Lavinia German and Matei Bejenaru, the photographic works selected in this publication are assembled in the form of a visual dialogue between the vision and perception of these young artists on contemporary society.
Doubled by the critical contribution of the text written by Cristian and Oana Maria Nae, professors at the History and Theory of Art specialization at UNAGE Iași, the projects include approaches to the concept of documentary photography, following the analytical direction of a visual essay, journalistic documentation or artistic reflection on the expressive side of post-mediality. The effort of the editorial team of the publication made up of Lavinia German, Silvia Prió and Cătălin Soreanu involved assembling the content in a narrative sequence that offers contemplative perspectives on the poetic understanding of human existence, points out parallel realities of emigrants’ lives, reveals traditions from the rural world, initiates reflections on the edge of the object, consumption and recycling or observe the echoes of recent industrialization on contemporary society. At the end of the publication there are microbiographies of the selected artists, to which the thanks of the editorial team go, together with Maria del Pilar Rovira Serrano and Felicia Balan who made this Erasmus+ collaborative project between the art institutions of Iasi and Mallorca possible.
The book can be consulted at the library of the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design in Iași, Sărărie str. no. 189.
